HCV Homeless Preference

Housing Choice Voucher Program
Homeless Referral Preference

Abilene Housing Authority's (AHA's) Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program partners with local homeless service providers and the Coordinated Entry Process to provide vouchers for referred homeless households. Households referred by partnering service providers are awarded a preference that places them near the top of the HCV Wait List. When vouchers are available those homeless households will be among the first chosen from the wait list.

The partnering homeless service providers will provide case management services including housing search assistance to the referred households. The household is expected to actively participate in case management programs offered by the provider.

AHA's, current, partnering homeless service providers are (more may be added):

  1. Abilene Hope Haven
  2. Betty Hardwick
  3. WCTCOG Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF)

These providers determine who to refer to the voucher program. Households must start with the Coordinated Entry Process to be eligible for referral to receive the HCV program homeless preference.
