Foster Youth to Independence (FYI) Program

Community Partners
The FYI Program is a collaborative effort between the following organizations:

  • Abilene Housing Authority (AHA)
  • 2INgage (PCWA)
  • Workforce Solutions of West Central Texas (WSWCT)
  • BCFS Health and Human Services (BCFS HHS)
  • Texas Department of Family and Protective Services

Purpose of the Program

To provide the Housing Choice Vouchers to youth (18-24 years of age) aging out of foster care and to assist in preventing homelessness. Eligible youth are also offered supportiveservices to assist them in becoming self sufficient.

What else do i need to know?

Q. How do i apply for the FYI Program?
A. Applicants can apply for the program by visiting Abilene Housing Authority's Website at www.abileneha.org and confirming the preference and by emailing 2INgage at pal @2ingage.org.

Q. Do I have to utilize the supportive services?
A. No, the program only provides supportive services if you want to utilize them. If you choose to participate in supportive services, WSWCT and/or BCFS HHS will provide the services.

Q. Who qualifies applicants for the program?
A. Initially, applicants are qualified by 1INgage, as having met the program requirements for aging out of foster care and then AHA will determine their final eligibility for the program.

Q. How many vouchers are available for the program?
A. AHA has access to 25 FYI vouchers.
